Yankees Clinch with Narrow Win over Giants

17 September, 2008: It's been a wild ride, but the 2008 High Park T-Ball season finished on T-Ball Tuesday with another 5th inning, one-run win by the Yankees over the Giants. The outcome was never certain, and no team was undefeated in this year's playoffs.

The Giants were thrilled to be in the final after eliminating the previously undefeated Mariners in a surprise upset on Sunday morning. The Yankees, who lost to the Mariners in the round robin, had to earn their way into the final by winning over a strong Dodgers team that cruised undefeated through the round robin. The Dodgers won over the Giants in the round robin.

The Astros and the Phillies played doggedly through the drizzle on Saturday morning on September 7th, until the Phillies finally triumphed in a game shortened by rain. The Philies advanced to the quarter-finals where they gave the Yankees a scare before bowing out.

In the round robin, the Royals lost to both the Angels and the eventual champions, the Yankees, by just one run. The Royals also defeated the quarter-finalist Tigers by a six-run margin.

The Angels entered the playoffs following a successful season but struggling to cope with the loss of a key player who moved to China. In the last game of the round robin they lost in the fifth inning by just one run to the surging Yankees.

In their final game of the round robin against the Phillies and facing elimination from the playoffs, the valiant Mets scored 8 runs in the fourth inning, but came up just short.

In the quarter-finals, the 3-1 Giants squeaked by the 2-2 Jays by a score of 18 to 17. The Dodgers also got a scare in the quarter-finals, edging a determined Tigers team by just 2 runs.

High Park Braves Win World T-Ball Tournament

August 4, 2008: For the third year in a row, the High Park All-Stars have won the Ancaster World T-Ball Tournament. Thanks again to the organizers and volunteers who make this annual event such a great success!

This year's High Park All-Star team was undefeated in seven games over the Civic Holiday weekend. In the final, the Turtle Club took a 6-5 first inning lead, but the Braves played exceptional defense, giving up only three runs in the remaining four innings, to win by a final score of 14 to 9. Congratulations Braves!

The High Park Selects played in the AAA division, and played very well against teams that were often older and more experienced. They advanced to the AAA final, but lost a close game to the Erindale All-Stars. Congratulations on a great tournament!

High Park Teams Win at Erindale T-Ball Tournament

14 July 2008: The annual Erindale T-Ball Tune-Up Tournament was held July 12th and 13th at Springfield Park in Mississauga. Once again the tournament was well organized and great fun for all who participated. Thanks to all the volunteers who make Erindale tournament a success!

The High Park T-Ball All-Stars were undefeated throughout the tournament and rolled to an impressive third consecutive championship. Congratulations to the team and their coaches, and good luck at the T-Ball World Championship in Ancaster, August first to fourth.

The Select team had a much rockier road to success. In fact they lost their first three games in the tournament. However, on Sunday morning, facing elimination from the tournament, the Selects finally pulled it together and squeaked into the AA division semifinals by defeating Ancaster.

In the semifinal game, the boys faced Stoney Creek, a team that defeated them in a close game on Saturday morning. Given a second chance, the Selects prevailed in another close contest to advance to the AA final.

With only a short break, the Selects had to play their fourth game of the day against a strong team from Dundas who had defeated them earlier that day. But it was a more confident and experienced team that played in the final, and they won a convincing victory to take home the AA Championship trophies.
